The Sasol Marathon is one of Sasolburg’s most anticipated annual sporting events, bringing together runners, fitness enthusiasts, and spectators from across the country. Held in the vibrant town of Sasolburg, the marathon has grown into a celebrated fixture on the regional road running calendar.

Organised with the support of local athletics clubs and community stakeholders, the event typically features multiple race categories, including the full marathon, half marathon, and shorter fun runs—making it accessible to both seasoned athletes and casual runners. Sasolburg Rugby Championships & Festivals – A Proud Sporting Tradition

Sasolburg has established itself as a vibrant hub for rugby development and competition, hosting a variety of annual rugby championships and festivals that bring together schools, clubs, and young talent from across South Africa. At the heart of these events is the iconic DP de Villiers Stadium, a modern multi-sports facility that regularly stages regional and national tournaments.

One of the most notable recurring rugby events in the area is the long-standing FNB Classic Clash, an annual interschool championship between Hoërskool Sasolburg and HTS Sasolburg. This fixture has been played for decades—spanning nearly half a century—and remains one of the biggest highlights on the local sporting calendar, drawing large crowds and fostering deep community pride.

In addition to school rivalries, Sasolburg also hosts youth development tournaments and rugby weeks, such as the National XV’s Rugby Week, where provincial under-13 teams from across the country gather to compete at a national level. These events provide a platform for emerging talent to showcase their skills while promoting the growth of rugby at grassroots level.
